At the August 21st meeting of the DCSD School Board, three potential ballot initiatives were raised for consideration. Those initiatives were summarized as:
- Prohibition of using taxpayer dollars for union salaries (proposed by Director Richardson)
- Prohibition of using district resources to collect union dues (proposed by Director Gerken)
- Prohibition on the Collective Bargaining Agreement model (proposed by Director Carson)
The Board asked the public for input on the “Pros” and “Cons” for each and any “Questions” the public may have. The Board meeting on September 5, 2012 was the one and only time for public comment on these proposed initiatives.
The 14-minute video dated August 21st provides the Board of Education discussion regarding the proposed ballot initiatives where they ask for public input.
The second video dated September 5th provides the Board of Education discussion and vote on these initiatives. The Board of Education did not move forward these initiatives. However, new Board policy was proposed and passed. This discussion of the new policy is captured in the video. The resolutions passed are also available on the District Board Briefing website.
Thank you for sharing with us your thoughts and recommendations (results are provided below). Your input will be shared with the Board of Education members as they have specifically asked for the public’s input.
